Interior Design Services

Kate has been doing interior design work for 25
years and loves to mix what her clients already
have with a few new accessories and artwork to
create a fresh new look.  "My goal is always to
make a home reflect the homeowners interest and
personality, not my own.  I listen carefully for cues
about likes, dislikes, hobbies, travels, collections,
etc. I then ask about what they may have tucked
away.  I once found eight rugs in an attic that the
couple had collected while living abroad and had
NEVER USED!  We redid the whole house around
those rugs.  I often find a great chair or ottoman in
someones basement that when reupholstered is
much better that what they're using upstairs.  It
feels like a treasure hunt.  Clients are very often
amazed how one great piece of art changes the
entire feeling of a room.  I like layering bits of old
and new to express a family's history and
personality and make them proud to call their
house 'home'".  

Kate's daughter, Christy Shafer has joined the
design team this year.  They've been in business
almost 10 years and Christy has been helping with
design projects since the beginning.  Now, due to
the volume of clients at Locust Grove Antiques &
interiors, she is taking her own clients and loving
it!  Kate says, "It's about time!  Christy has always
had such a knack for putting things together in an
artful way.  With her background in film
production, her attention to detail is amazing.  It's
been such fun this year to see her blossom into
such a fine designer.  Together we've done several
rooms in Kansas City Designer Showhomes and
after after collaborating with her, I knew she was
ready."
